My new build is finally done

AMD X2 3800+ @ 2.9GHz (Vcore @ 1.400) w/ Thermalright SI-120
Asus A8N-SLI
(x2) Patriot 1GB PC4000 DDR RAM @ 443MHz (FSB is at 290, so the next lowest setting for the RAM is 333Mhz)
Seagate 7200.10 320GB SATA2 HDD
Auzentech X-Mystique 7.1 sound card
eVGA 7900GT (500/1600 as of right now.......i can go higher)
Thermaltake Armor

But i have a question.........right now i have my HTT multiplier set at 3x, which ends up being 1740Mhz (870x2).
Is this low enough below the stock 2000MHz that i will notice a performance hit, or will the speed of the processor and ram make up for it?
(I can use a multiplier of 4x.....but i didnt know if it would be bad to have such a high HTT speed)

Thanks

He probably had to back it down while overclocking...
I was under the impression that HTT is usually at 1000.

.....and then x2.
The HTT multiplier will give a number <=1000 and then times that number by 2 to get the maximum HTT speed.

So a slower HTT speed wont really affect performance any, if at all?

Edit - Holy hell, this X2 beats the crap out of my old 2.7GHz Venice. I just did SuperPI to 8m in under 5m44s while cruising the internet and downloading files. Multi-tasking kicks ass.

Ok, i have another questiojn/problem -

Ever since i turned my computer back on this morning, Firefox has been acting retarded.
First, the search engines have disappeared from the search bar in the upper right corner (if i type something in and hit enter nothing happens)
Second, no matter what i do Firefox always opens up in a "Normal Window". Even if i close it while its maximized, or i tell it to open maximized, it wont.

I have reinstalled twice, but the same problems keep occuring. Any suggestions?

well, you know the next question is "are you sure you're stable" at 2.9? all memtested, 12+ hours prime, game stable?

O yes, im stable..............its just a problem with firefox. Every other app i have runs fine.

Is there some way to change settings in firefox other then using the Options menu, like an advanced view or something?
And how do i donwload the google search engine for firefox (the only way i could find was using google toolbar, which i dont want)?

Entering:
about:config
into the address bar reveals most (all?) of firefox's settings

Yea, i know that, but what exactly should i be looking for in about:config?

Ok, so heres where im at -

I discovered that Firefox will open maximized all the time, EXCEPT when im downloading something using Firefox. If im downloading a file and i open up Firefox, it will only open normally.
And i still cant get any of the search engines to appear or work in Firefox.

Any thoughts?

YOUR HTT IS TOO HIGH!!!!

you don't understand, that number... 1730, that's the number that gets multiplied by 2 to equal your htt in the end. that means your htt is really 3460, and you want it 2000 or less. Think about it, the default fsb speed for amd procs is 200mhz, with a 5x multi. that's 1000htt x2 for 2000. that's perfect. you have 870mhz with a 2x multi, that's 1730htt x2 for 3460. WAYYYY to high. That's probably why firefox is acting crazy. did you install ff or win XP with this htt setting? if so, then they might not have been installed properly, that could be why it's acting wierd too.

EDIT: NEVER MIND!!!!

ROFL!!! I thought your FSB was set to 870 😱. I was sorta wondering, how the hell did he manage to do that, but... hehe... 😱😱
