Hey all. It's been 1 year since I "re" discovered the fun of playing board games with good friends and a nice cold beer.
I bought many board games in those past months with very different settings and gameplay. I currently own Battlelore with some expansions, Munchkin Cthulhu, Tannhäuser (that I still didn't played yet), Pandemic (which I play mostly with gf), Castle Ravenloft (4th ed. D&D dungeon crawler, great fun with 3 or more players) and finally my last one, Earth Reborn.
Firstly, the autor did an amazing job on the background story. How were things before the apocalypse and how they are now. Who's fighting who and for what...you know the drill.
Where this game shines is in it's depth...damn there's so much tactical and strategical choices you can make and which can influence the outcome of your mission. You assign order tiles on characters and each tile has it's own actions on it. Each actions are executed with command points which are limited per character and per turn. On top of that you add S.A.G.S (Scenario Auto-Generating System) which randomly generate scenarios (map AND mission objectives) for an added almost infinite replay value. The board itself is made with Tetris like tiles. Indoors and outdoors 2-sided tiles which add up to over 90 different tiles.
I won't go over details on the game mechanics but i'll just quickly detail how much things you can do in this game: move, close combat, range combat, open doors (that's your basic stuff). You also have to watch your carrying weight limit when carrying items. You can also add to that smashing down doors and walls, jam radio waves, lay down mines and decoys to lure your opponent, become a traitor, infiltrate or spy the ennemy, make an ennemy a prisoner and so on...
The game comes with 9 tutorial scenarios which integrate new rules of play on as you advance. Like the first scenario include the core rules plus close combat and movement.
There's so much to this game that I can't explain and MUST be played.
If you like tactical combat and strategical actions that have an impact on the outcome of your game. If you like well thought and written background and lore that help in the immersion. If you like post-apocalyptic settings with humans and zombies and cyborgs and mutants battling each other over survival...
Then by all means take a look at this board game!
