My New Audigy: Some issues (help, im new to sound cards)

OK, I just bought an Audigy MP3+ off ebay, and some of you may have seen my long post about the big problem I had with my computer. Well, my dad reformatted my hard drive (thinking he was formatting my OTHER secondary drive) and I lost everything. So now Im a little heated 🙂

OK, so I didnt get any drivers cd with the Audigy, damn post office stole them (guy who shipped it said there were 3 DISCS!). So I downloaded the new Compaq drivers, and deleted that one .cfg file, and installed them, and my sound works fine, but here are my issues:

-The infamous crackling, occuring in the front right speaker
-Windows sounds arent going 4-channel (maybe they arent supposed to though)
-Soldier of Fortune II getting crackles JUST IN THE MENU
-above game, not doing 4channel sound?

I have Altec Lansing ACS54 4-chan. speakers, and this is my first sound card, not like the onboard sound on my ECS K7S5A, so Im new to all this stuff. Does anyone know any settings I should adjust or anything, that usually helps resolve Audigy issues I may come across?

Besides my specific issues, Im really also just looking for some pointers on dealing with this card. Thanks so much!

OK, umm Soldier of Fortune gets crackles at any loud sounds...

and I got 4chan. sound to work all around...

But does anyone know how to solve the crackles? Would turning down the system sound and turning up the speakers help it?

And any tips on Audigy in general??

You can try moving it to a different PCI slot,as to the Audigy CD,you can order one from Creative Labs website ,it`s not expensive. Also make sure you`ve the latest updated drivers for it,you did disable the onboard sound for the motherboard one in bios?

The card is currently in slot 3, I was told that was shared with onboard sound...

And yes I disabled onboard sound.

I have those new drivers that were on Compaq's site, along with the software, so its probably newer than even what Creative would send me...

Creative has a program which they call AudioHQ along with the drivers which let you change from 2 to 4 channel. You can have Windows set to 4-channel, but if it still set at 2-channel in AudioHQ, it will play with 2-channel. This is what happened to me when I didn't want to install the software.
