Hey everyone,
I just built my system and it is up and running and it is smoking! (in a good way :))I have some questions though, when I installed the heatsink on the processor, I followed the AMD manual's instructions to place the step over the socket.

I was wondering if:
1. The tape I peeled off has thermal compound on it underneath (I HOPE IT DOES!!!)?

2. Should the fan be pressed down that hard on the chip since it took some pressure to push that hsf clip over the socket?

I would appreciate any help and thanks for reading!

did the heatsink have pink stuff on the bottom? mine did, i strapped it off and put AS II on it.

when i was putting it on the cpu it took a lot of pressure, so I would not worry about that.

Yeah, AMD requires 20 lbs(?) of pressure on the core. it seems like a lot more when youre pushing and pushing then your thumbs turns red, and then you middle finger...etc. the thermal pad isnt too bad. i had pretty good results with it, but ihad better with some thermal grease. i wouldnt worry though, 1-2 c difference isnt bad.

good luck

1) There's a thermal pad under the tape. It's a kind of compound that bonds to the chip the very first time your computer starts up. It helps to ensure good contact between the heatsink and the core of the CPU.

2) Yeah, it does take a lot of pressure to put an HSF on an Athlon.

Good luck!
