My new 1.6@2.46 is 71C with full load too much?

You're getting close to a dangerous temp there...
the P4 should slow itself down so it won't burn up though, but 71C is very high.

max P4A temp is 66*C then thermal throttle kicks in.
that temperature isnt read from your cpu temp tho - its a seperate sensor and could kick on as low as 60*C cpu temp.

either you have serious problems - or its lying to you. (or both)

Have you actually touched the heatsink? If it is at 70C you will know about it... sometimes heat sensors are completely wrong. You might want to try the good ole finger test.... I think this is more likely

That's hot as hell! You better have a fire extinguisher near your computer just in case

Your way to high Thugs is right 66 celsius is intels built in limit, get the temp down or you might fry it.

I have the same problem
My sensor temp commonly gives readings as high as 69c. I havent seen smoke yet.lol
I think the sensor is off.
I have a 1.8a/epox 4sda overclocked to 2.2g. Prime crashes at 2.4, but all other benchmarks run fine at 2.4g
Games won't run stable at 2.4 either. So, I set it back.
cheers

My 1.8 is a tad warm at stock (43 idle 52-53 load), so I emailed Intel about it since it was warmer than most here.. I was told by Intel that 67 is the critical temp for the P4 Northwood. I can go to 2.0 before I see anything more than about 1 degree temp change.

"The maximum safe temperature for this processor is 67 degrees Celsius"
