My Neurologist recommended that I get a car with ?

...good adjustable seats and side airbags. Apparently the bone spurs in my neck, from arthritis, can sever part of my spinal cord if I get whiplash. 🙁

He recommended Saturn, German, Swedish or British cars because he thinks they offer the best head and neck protection. The only problem is that I really don?t like most Saturn?s. My experience with most European makes (BMW's & VW's) is that they are very expensive buy and maintain. I really like the Accord and Maxima but don?t know if they offer adequate neck and head protection for my needs.

Any car (not SUV) suggestions around the mid $20K?s would be appreciated.
 
The doctor just gave you a recommendation. I doubt he is an expert on car safety, he probably read it in a magaizine, combined with his own bias.
 
If you honestly do get one of the Dr.'s recommended cars (taking into account TommyVercetti's advice) I would recommend the Mercedes C-Coupe. It's mid-20's, and it's awesome looking, IMHO.

Disregard what your doctor advises. Listen to what people on this board have to say. 😀

Depends on your needs. I know someone who is a pediatric orthopedic specialist who bought a Passat after doing quite a bit of research. Why? Turns out that the most common maiming of children in an auto accident is from the front seat collapsing backwards onto a childs legs and crushing their knees. The Passat was among the most resistant to this failure.

They can be had in the mid 20's

Believe it or not he is high on Mercedes. I didn't think they were in my price range.

See if your Doc can write a Prescription for one of those cars.😀
 
Geez....I thought Drug Company's giving docs free stuff to push their drugs was bad enough, but now car companies are stepping up too!!!

But, seriously, If the doc told you that, presumably based on X-rays and other imaging studies, I'd keep that notion in mind. I highly doubt he's a car expert though, and probably is refering to side-impact type airbags in general. I'm sure that it's probably a good idea to look around, find cars that have those curtain-type airbags, and consider one of those vehicles (Audi, MB, BMW, Jaguar, Volvo, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, etc.) Keep in mind that none of those systems is fool-proof, and each accident is different; they afford a higher level of protection but $hit could still happen.

you could probably pick up an 01 or 02 300M for mid20s, they have yully automatic seat ajustments as well as great back support , and its a great car to drive.
 
Maybe you could get him to write a prescription for you for a certain type of car, then your medical insurance will pay for most of it.
