My network "dips" often

Everyone once and awhile, in a very inconsistent fashion, my network loses connection. Sometimes it will just be a quick flash, less than 2 seconds. Other times, it will be for as long as and hour or more. The time ranges from long to short. My friend has the same provider as me (Comcast), and said that they bought a new router and it fixed it. I am on a wired connection btw. Would a new router make a difference?

I have a D-Link Xtreme G that was purchased over 1-2+ years ago btw.

What modem are you using and how old is it? I had very similar problems about a year ago with a Motorola 3100 modem and ended up having Comcast replace the old modem with a new 5120 model. I haven't had a problem since then.

We just got a new one within the past month. We have had this problem before and since the installment.

I might recommend anything you can flash with dd-wrt (check their web page) if you feel up to it. If not, they're kinda a horse-a-piece unless you want to plunk down bling for a cisco 851w or 871w. But if you are comfortable configuring one of those, you should also be comfortable with a dd-wrt -able router anyway.
