The pictures on the last 2 pages are the ones that show the most fire. Pretty much, the fire started before 6am this morning. We evacuated our house and just watched the blaze. The whole house is a loss thats for sure. The good news was that no one was in the house at the time, and that our house suffered no heat damage. Wish I could say the same for the neighbor on the other side who had the siding melt off their house and the wood was charred underneath.

The neighbors just bought the house a few weeks ago and were adding all hardwood floors. They didn't even get a chance to move in.

Bummer deal!

Since they were putting hardwood floors in, maybe it was something to do with that. There was no furniture in the house. All the carpeting was disposed of.

It'll be nice when we can start building structures out of something other than fire fuel.

Maybe steel or stone would work. Then, we have to start thinking about the materials we are putting in our homes to prevent fires from even starting. I am not opposed to wearing a suit of armor to work, but without undergarments, it chafes a little. ;)

Haha, if I was heartless I would have. Actually, there were a ton of news vans out there as well. I was more tempted to take my shirt off, grab a beer, and walk out to address the media on the situation. :D

I am sure that would have made the news, especially if I would have belched on the air. :)

They could have uncovered major problems when doing renovations and just wanted to get out. Or they could have been careless.

Very possible. Which is why we were questioned on if anyone was in the house last night or this morning. We answered the officers questions accurately. Guess we will see.

The owner did show up on site about 4 hours after the fire started. It was about 1/2 way out by then.

That one does look pretty bad. There was a house in my parent's neighborhood (about same house sizes/build as the ones pictured in OP) that caught fire, although it was some guy committing suicide and poured gasoline all over the house and lit it on fire. It was still standing/you could semi walk around in it. However, the guy's wife did decide to demolish it and rebuild.

I would go with this. One of my neighbors caught his house on fire during a cold snap a couple of months back. He thought it would be a good idea to defrost the pipes that froze in his garage with a blowtorch. The fire burned up through the garage, into the top floor, and out the roof. They still haven't finished renovating it.

Stone - I saw on Discovery how they go about processing granite. Apparently cutting it is difficult and time-consuming, using long saws with diamond dust coating.
Too bad we still don't have cheap, high-power lasers to dice up the granite into nice slabs in a few minutes.

Ideally, we'd have a non-flammable material that was cost-competitive with wood. Right now houses are built with flammable termite food.
