My Neighbor Is Stealing My Water

My neighbor and I are both "yard junkies". We're meticulous about our lawns, etc. We both have several reels of water hose attached at various locations on our homes.

Almost every day when I come home, my water is turned on and the hose is scattered. Obviously I know someone was using it, but I had no idea who. We live in a pretty nice neighborhood so it's a little surprising.

Anyway, my sister stopped by my house this afternoon to drop some things off, and she said she saw my garden hose from the rear of the house extended all the way into my neighbor's backyard. She went inside and peered out one of the second story windows and saw him watering his flowers with it.

Note that I have a fenced yard.

So, do I:

a) Unscrew all of his hoses and turn all of the spickets on
b) Write my initials in his lawn using Round Up
c) Slice the root of his biggest tree with my edger

Anyone who wants to whine about destruction of property can blow me because, frankly, I don't care.

Sorry guys, the update is boring. I put a Post-It on his front door with the following text:

"Stop using my water or we're going to chat.

- You know who"

Hopefully that will do it.

As if the cops are going to even try to investigate that.

Tell him you know what he's up to, and to stop, but don't threaten retribution, then put some sort of flow meter on your spigot. If he steals again do a) or c) since the cops couldn't ever prove you did it, b) they could and you'd have no proof on him.

Ask him then to pay you some $ for the other water he has used.

I thought that would be a good idea too but I would bet that the weed killer would be really watered down by the time it got there and wouldn't do much.

Even better, since if you dump weed killer into the hose it will be gone in a few seconds, I wonder if you could get a small puck or something, stick it in there... then all the water that flows over it would have it in it...

use one of those miracle grow switch on/switch off attachments, but put it on the pipe inside.
