My @%$# neighbor is constantly asking me for tech support on their Gateway! They want me to install software, then its install a cd-burner, then its install a printer or help its not working right, then its network their house. Now they just asked me to help come and fix their computer because its not working right. I can't stand it. I don't know why they just dont call Gateway. Whats a nice way of telling them to stop wasting my time over? Its getting to be really annoying.

EDIT: I dont want to piss them off, I just want some polite way to say I should be paid for my services or that they should call gateway.

Welcome to my world... 🙁 get a mac... and tell them you don't know how to do it anymore since PCs get obsolete too fast. 😀

Tell him that you're starting a business for computer tech support, and you're going to have to start charging $50 an hour because of the demand for your services.

Alternately, stop being a pussy and start charging them for it. Reasonable if you want to make some cash on the side, obscene if you just want them to leave you alone.

Just quote them an extrodinarily high hourly rate to work on their system. I used to not mind working on people's systems, but after a while it got horribly annoying.

The same thing happened to me. They asked one or two times for a minor thing and I didnt mind doing it. But now its everything and constantly.

"Sorry, Mr + Mrs. So and So, I can't help you, I'm kind of busy at the moment. You can call 1-800-Gateway (or whatever the tech support number is) they will be able to help you solve all your computer problems 24-7."

or maybe if you dont want to be so nice

"Sorry, Mr + Mrs. So and So, I am sick and tired of helping you out with every single computer problem you may have. Unless you plan to pay me I suggest you call Gateway the computer manufacturer. They have phone number 1-800-Gateway you can call at any time to get solutions to your computer problems. Please stop bothering me."

I think you've painted yourself in a corner already by doing every single thing for them already.

tell them its broke, and to take it back and buy an imac (its a computer especially made for idiots -- from the old comedy video thing)

start charging
Wouldn't that be considered rude? They live next door to me. Maybe I should just put a flyer in everyone on the blocks mail box for computer service and repairs, that way it wouldn't seem so direct and rude.

Evil solution: Break something (not permanent) that totally disables the computer - just loosen the power connector to the HDD or something. Then say you're totally baffled. Then they'll have to get outside help!

Maybe I could just write up a bill after I go over there and fix their problem and put it in their mailbox. That'd be funny (snicker).

just say "MOOOOO" or "DOOOOD, I ONLY SUPPORT DeLLs"

but seriously, if a neighbor cant ask a neighbor for some minor help, where are your community values?! [/insert republican rant]

(/switch to liberal democrat mode) and suppose your neighbor is a working class minority that doesn't know much about computers and hence needs your help.

1. agree to help
2. take the computer over night
3. dump some water on it while its on
4. Let dry for 24 hours
5. return

That should solve a lot of problems such as them ever wanting help again. But are you sure you don't want to keep good relations with them and trying a more amicable way?
