My Near Nightmare While Flashing Bios

I recently flashed my bios on my new mobo after reading several online articles and posts stating I would get a significant performance boost by doing so.

As a newbie to this sort of thing (plus, this being is the first computer I ever built) I was a little hesitant. After reading the info posted on http://www.msihardware.com/ I thought I had a pretty good grasp of what needed to be done. I flashed the bios and everything seemed fine while going through the steps. Then came the time to reboot...

My system kept locking up and acting really strange. It wouldn't load windows. I was able to boot into my bios config utility but being a newbie I had no idea what was wrong and ended up taking it to a tech at the store I bought all my components from (he didn't charge me anything, btw).

Turns out, the bios overclocked my processor to 1200MHz without my knowing it. I literally came within seconds from frying my processor and was lucky in this case. He corrected the settings in my bios but I was left with multiple kernel 32 errors which forced me to format my system as I couldn't run any windows apps. Of course, he was convinced I had tried to OC my computer and told me to leave the bios alone unless I was having problems with my system.

Thing is, I want my system to run as effeciently as possible and have been told in this forum that flashing bios is no big deal (as long as I follow the directions). Now I'm terrified to touch the bios but still want my system to run as good as possible.
