Optical mouse. I had lifted it up for a second, shining the light into the computer case. I was thinking "wow, I never realized it was that bright before." when suddenly, it shut down to about 10% as bright.

I'm amazed that it's designed to do that. Are they afraid of morons burning their eyes out by staring into the bright light?

I hope you were joking, looking into that light can cause all sorts of problems later. Biggest of which it will cause you to join the hairi krishnas.

I imagine if the red light stayed bright constantly it would bug people who kept their computer in their bedroom.

Don't worry, if you put your thumb next to it you can still burn your retinas out, if you're coordinated enough.

Only if they have a see-thru bottom.. cause it doesn't affect the tail light brightness... just if you look at it from the bottom...

logitech mx'es dont do that. thats an intellimouse feature. I've had optical mice since 1999. Nothng new here....

Edit: i cant speak for wireless mice.
