My mouse randomly stops working

My USB mouse randomly stops working, but the red light under is it still on so it is recieving power. Also, using a different mouse doesn't work. This started happening while I was playing League of Legends.
 
How old and what kind? Mice do just wear out - especially if gaming is involved.
 
Is it definitely a mouse problem - does the computer carry on responding, e.g. you can see stuff moving on the screen, and if you press the Caps Lock key on the keyboard, does the Caps Lock light come on?

Dodgy USB port?
