My mouse keeps dying in Win10.

Once the upgrade from Win8.1 was complete, everything seemed to work. I tried out the new Edge browser, played around with Win10 for an hour or so, and then launched Borderlands 2 to test out gaming. It seemed to work as well as 8.1, but as I was finishing off a boss, my mouse pointer froze on the screen. I have a 10-port USB3 hub from Orico which I have been using for years with Win8.1. It is plugged into one of only 2 USB3 ports on my computer. There are 6 other USB2 ports on my mobo, but I never use them. The game was fine, but I could not aim. I pulled the mouse out of that USB port and plugged it into another one. The game recovered.

The Orico has never had a problem on Win7 or Win8.1. I usually have 5 or 6 devices plugged into it at any one time. To make it as easy as possible for Win10, I only left my kb and mouse plugged in. Another 30 mins of Borderlands 2 passed with no issues.

My son was just playing Minecraft. After about 20 mins, he also lost the mouse. The game was still playing fine, and the KB was working. In both instances, we moved the mouse to a new port, and it worked once again. Has anyone else had Win10 difficulties with a USB mouse?

Plug it into the PC directly before blaming the mouse.

Could be a power management thing with 10 and that hub.

What sort of mouse? Are you sure it hasn't started to fail?

I've currently got a mouse on its last legs and it will occasionally drop out. But it was doing it in both 8 and now 10.

The mouse is relatively new, it's a Logitech G400s gaming mouse. I've had it only about a year, and never had a problem with it. Worked flawlessly on Win8. I'll fire up some more Borderlands 2 this afternoon and see if it keeps happening or not.

I've put it down to upgrades which were running in the background. After a day of not doing anything to solve the problem, it simply went away.

So it was not Windows 10 fault???

Sure it was. When Windows 10 does updates, it also does device updates, which use Device Manager to install new drivers for things. Which can trigger a re-enumeration of the hardware, which can temporarily disable things, like USB mice. I've encountered the same thing with my install of Win10 Pro 32-bit.

I can watch the LEDs for each of the ports on my USB hub, and some of them go off, in sequence, then a few seconds later, they come back on.

I've had things stall during WIN X updates, but overall I still like it.

They are becoming fewer and farther between, is a lot better than it was months ago.

Use a wireless Logitech trackball myself, but still updates will do that now and then it seems to me.
