My motherboard wont recognize the memory in third slot

I had 2 sticks of 128 mb DDR ram in my Transcend ALR4 motherboard. I added another 256mb but it would only boot up and show 256. I switched up the sticks so that the 256mb stick was in the first slot and the computer showed 384. I had the other 128mb stick in the third slot but it still showed 384mb

Does anyone know whats wrong?

im not sure, but maybe your motherboard requires your ram to be registered if you want to use more than 2 slots. Im saying this because my KG7 Raid is that way.

i didnt say i was sure, i just said thats how KG7 Raid works. you should check your manual. one more thing, again, im not 100% sure, but i think that on my mobo they ALL have to be registered for over 2 slots to work.

It could also be that you have met the maximum total allowable RAM for your mobo and BIOS. I have 3 slots . . . Asus K-7m. I have a 256 in slot 1 and 2, and I added a 512 in 3. It showed as 256. I read the manual careully, and it said that the max ram PER SLOT was 256. Therefore, the max for the system is 768 . . . and that is what I have.

You might check your manual to see if there are any such limitations on yours.

Go work out for about 1 hour at the gym, go home, eat something to get some energy, open up your case, and push on the memory in the 3rd slot REALLLLLY hard to make sure that it's seated all the way in. 🙂😀😉😛 Hope this helps.
