my motherboard does not have a 3pin power connector... what can i do? ***FIXED***

basically, i have a compaq presario that i am using for a divx box. i am upgrading the cpu from pii300 to a piii450. the pii300 used a passive heatsink, while the piii450 has a golden orb on it. i pulled out the pii300 and was about to plug in the piii450, when i noticed that this mobo does not have a 3pin power connector for the golden orb. is there any other way i can get power to the golden orb? like a converter from the 4pin molex or something? suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated... thanx!

make one yourself.

Use the Power supply connector...

i just found this at newegg. its a 3pin (male) to 4pin (female) converter. the problem is... don't i need a 3pin (male) to 4pin (male) converter? becuz the power connectors from the psu are female... it would be pointless if i had two females ends... u know what i mean? arggh!!!!

btw... how would i make one? any sites with tutorials?

hehehe no prob...

i ran into the same problem one time when first building a new machine... the 2 "tails" on the fan, pop off about a 1/4 inch or the rubber coating...

get and Extra PSU connector... stick the 2 free ends in, a small piece of Electrical tape... Poooof! That fan should be spinning!

Spanky, look at the pic that is with that item you linked to. Its exactly what you need. It has both a female and male molex and 3pin fan terminal.

bjc112: when u say "tails"... do u mean the wires? this golden orb i have has 3 wires (a black, red, & blue). also... i see that i have free power connector from the psu. that connector has four wires (2 black, 1 red, & 1 yellow). does i have to connect each wire from the golden orb to a specific color wire from the psu connector?

I'd say though, if you can buy the Connector for cheap, do it... but if its gonna cost 15$, try it my way first...

yeah... i will try it ur way becuz i am just an impatient bastage... hehe... and cheap too. it's gonna be $8 shipped from newegg and i have to wait like about a week for it to get here (NJ) from CA thanx for the tip. i am gonna try it now. if i don't post for a week... it's prolly becuz i fried something in my rig :Q
