My motherboard died.....curse Soyo....

I had a Soyo Dragon K7V Plus and it died out after crashing to blue screens at first, then never booting into windows again. Well at this point that leaves me with an Athlon XP 1800 which never got it's full use and two 256 MB Sticks of PC2100 DDR ram. At this point I dunno if I should just get another athlon XP motherboard that supports PC2100 ram or start upgrading with a new proc, ram, and MBD. Just to get an eye opener, what's a solid combo without paying too much. I am saving dough for my Ultimate Computer, but I need something for now other than the public library's computer or one of my relatives' slow comps. A friend just went intel with an Asus mobo that was around $300 and 2.5ghz proc with hyperthreading (don't want to go that expensive). This forum rocks for hardware recomendations. Let me know what's up guys.

REPOST THIS IN GENERAL HARDWARE. That is most of where "hardware recomendations" goes. And mobo forum is somewhat dead borin in my book. ;-0
