One thing did strike me from your story: why did you call your local doctor and not 911 when the pain first started?

I have a good friend that has crohn's disease.... he goes through these types of pains on a bi-weekly or so basis.

He sweats it out for an hour or so until he has the worst fart of your life...

My ex has Crohn's ... they had to remove a foot of his intestines because of it.

I am very sorry for your loss.

that is terrible, I'm sorry.

Maybe it had something to do with her gastric bypass ? Maybe it caused a tear in her stomach or something.

I'm really sorry about your loss. :(

However, I don't think filing a lawsuit your doctor is the best option. You're upset about your loss, I can understand that, but it's a very rash action to make, especially since you have little to no proof that your mother was mistreated in any way during her stay in the hospital.

Was she running a fever the whole time, or was it episodic (did it go away and come back and go away...)? When you say "slight fever," do you have a number?

Do you know what the results of the blood work were? In particular, did she have an elevated count of white blood cells? Also, see if you can find out if when they did the blood work, if it was done "with differential." The differential just means they looked at what particular kinds of white blood cells were there instead of just counting them.

She said it was a burning pain, I can't believe that this was a simple get up and death, and am doing my best to rid the anger, as For having no tollerence, they were going to give her 6 mg of morphine per hour. She had a 500mg pill dose of vicodin and was knocked out for the rest of the night. very low tollerance, Just trying to figure this out as we had no warning signs.

If morphine and dilaudid are going to be lethal, the cause of death will likely be an OD (they basically stop breathing) or an allergic reaction, neither of which sound likely (at all) here.

The fever suggests an infection of some sort. The blood count might help confirm that and even help figure out what kind of infection (bacterial, viral, etc).

Did they give her any antibiotics? Or any drugs besides the painkillers? Did she have any diarrhea? edit - saw she got compazine, but I'm wondering if she got ceftriaxone or anything like that. Compazine is just to control nausea.

Kick their ass seabass! Seriously- I've been admitted to the ER for those kind of pains before and I had the attention of the whole hospital. I was a 9 or 10 and they certainly didn't give me morphine. If they gave morphine, it either says they knew what was going on and just how servere it was or they had no idea what was going on and just took a shot in the dark to shut her up. Either way, it was probably inapropriate consiering the risks that go with it...

It really sounds like her appendix blew up.

Just IMO, and I'm not an MD: You need to be sure an autopsy is done. Preferably an independent one (not at the hospital).

In the meantime, if you could get the blood results and post them here, it might be helpful.

is the ME of New York independent? If the hospital is at fault, or you think it is, you do NOT want them doing the autopsy

I would assume he is, but it's an assumption...

I agree with the second part completely, there's a huge conflict of interest if he's not independent.
