cliffs:

-mom finally decides she wants camry.

-i get quote for Auto LE 2010 for 19000 (sticker has to be 22820).

-i give my mother info, she heads down. I think wow, that is a pretty good price.

-I call sales guy to see how everything went or is going....he just hangs up on me. Oh well, must have got disconnected, right?

-get call 2 hours later from my mom......

-she has been arguing with whole dept about how the price should include TTL (sigh...I told her it did not).

-They finally sell her the car for 17,6XX +TTL (ends up as 191XX OTD). Dealer does not seem happy.

-I now wait for the next phone call....1) that is not the car I test drove or 2)They will not give me promotional financing. Atleast it keeps me up on this monday. Sigh.....

edit....wait, should this be in OT?

I can see how my mom could make the same mistake, but I hate dealerships. let's send all our nagging mothers there to give them a headache.

No, I do not care if they are happy...I just have a feeling they are gonna put one over her some how...whether it be the financing or they give her a different car.

I am actually surprised she got it that low...no dealer wanted to give them up for less than 19.8K....then she just walks in and gets it for 17.whatever K. Props to my mom i guess....but I am not looking forward to the "they are screwing me over" phone calls if they happen.

Sounds to me like she knows what she's doing.

Oh...I know. She uses the "Fresh off the boat" card due to her chinese accent. It is amazing how dealers just change their attitude when they go from Fluent english speaker (me) to heavy chinese accent (mother). People say ignorance is bliss....but I guess it should be "acting ignorant gets you a better deal at a car dealership".

whats ttl?

and i agree, you got a good price. props to her.

Tax, title and license.

heh.. duh? i see. tax must be high where ever you are.

It's almost 10% here. Tax on a $20k car would be close to $2000.

Do you live in TN? Its the same here...friggin high dollar.

She got a great deal! Awesome! As was mentioned already, everything is negotiable. If you only have 19k to spend then the final price MUST include TTL + any stupid fees the dealer wants to charge. I always tell them they can tack on whatever fees they want but I am going to pay $xxx for the car. If they don't like it, walk, they'll call you in an hour or so and agree.

Sweet deal! We paid $15k for a 2007 Camry LE with 20k miles 3 months ago. However, it had a few extra options like sunroof, spoiler, premium wheels, etc.

Good for your mom.

It's the same with buying houses. If your first offer doesn't offend the seller; you've bid too much. :)
