(Not that I *want* the pope to die or wish him ill will)
So my mother really despises the pope for some reason.
She claims that everytime he visits a country and leaves, after a certain period of time (~a few months)
a disaster of some sort occurs, i.e. earthquakes, flood, storm, major violence...

In other words, his death means apocylpse...
we'll just see...

Edit: (changed title)

Hmm...considering natural disasters occur in just about every country every year...how can that be related in way, shape or form to the Pope's visits?

You called what about the Pope's condition? Your message in the thread only talks about your mother's strange claim which hasn't been proven one way or the other.
What's the point of this thread at all?

RIGHT! Son, you live in a fantasy. Whatever happens to the Pope in the future affects natural phenomena about as much as it influences the last night's TV schedule or how many pepperoni slices were on your last pizza.

I originally was going to market the Pope's (and other religious figures) excrement as pendants and religious charms. In all seriousness, I wanted to attempt to coat small pieces of fecal matter in polyurethane or acrylic coatings and attach them to 14k gold chains and sell them. In addition, their urine could be bottled into small vessels and worn around the neck.

The problem arose in getting anyone to take the idea seriously and the additional difficulty of actually obtaining the "waste" products. Obviously my inquiries into the matter were met with silence as most religious officials thought I was nuts.

The other problem is, IMHO, almost everything the pope says is waste so there's a glut of papal waste product on the market. Stressing IMHO!

There's rarely any point to threads in the first place. Just thought I'd introduce a new subject :)

I never said I agreed with her. I'm just saying she kept making this claim for the longest time.

Then there is a point to the thread, but it's titled wrong. You didn't call anything, it's your mom's theory.

So how many natural disasters have happened after he visited a country?

It seems that the majority of the time the Pope, or Religion is mentioned here at ATOT anyone who may have a shred of faith is ripped to pieces for having that faith. This thread is an example of the originator not even show any faith (having or not) gets ripped just for the mention of the Pope. Whether your are religious or not you have to at least admit the Pope is a highly intelligent man and has done a lot of good things for many people. Just because his religious views differ from your there is no need to blast him and the originator of this thread. Maybe I was over-reacting a bit but someone has to stand up for the Pope. You try growing up Polish! :)

I personally believe that every time the Pope farts a hurricane is a'commin! :)

Dude, calm down.
I might not be religious, but I would not insult the pope's intelligence or what he's done that is good for people or otherwise.
And if it were true that hurricanes are caused by the pope, I think the people of Florida and the Carolinas have someone to blame now. :)

The Pope is a man, nothing more.

well, thats subjective. to you and me he may be nothing more than a man but his position is obviously important enough to hold cultural significance all over the globe.

Even within the context of Christianity, the Pope is just a man, and nothing more. Catholics pray to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; not to the Pope. (The near deification of the Virgin Mary in the eyes of Catholics is disturbing, but not the subject of this post.) The Pope is a man holding an elected office; he is not in any way, shape, or form anything but a man.

It wouldn't have mattered if he said his mom, his wife, his dog, Brett Favre or Madonna...he'd have gotten the same responses.

So old Karol is finally going to kick the bucket eh? Too bad the whole entity of the Catholic church won't follow him into nothingness.

What the...
I don't see anyone ripping on the Pope unless I'm blind. You can rip on me if you want for giving hawkeye81x a hard time for no apparant reason, but that's about it.
