my monitor is making this high pitch noise

its a 3 year old KDS 17" activtron (something like that) ...
it just started making this really high pitch ringing noise when it is turned on. Sometimes i can hit it and it will stop for a little while, but eventually starts up again. Is my monitor dying on me- or is there some repair i might be able to do to it?

Yes, your monitor is dying my friend, and there ain't a bit you can do about it. Although hitting it probably doesn't help matters.

Do not attempt repairs on your monitor unless you know what you're doing. You can hurt yourself very badly.

Did the ringing start happening out of nowhere? My monitor started doing that immediately after I updated my video drivers. It's less than a year old.

I adjusted settings (like lowering the refresh rate, etc) and after a reboot or two the ringing went away.

i'm not sure if thats my problem or not--- but its worth a try, and if it keeps me from having to buy a new monitor i'm all for it. (although i havent changed the settings in a long time.... i'm still keeping my fingers crossed)
