I'm about to purchase a motherboard for the p3 I'm building, the only problem is I don't know which one to pick... Wanna help?

Ok got another question, how do you select a motherboard if you are totally stupid and you don't know who to trust(paranoia)?

Dont worry about it too much. If you read Anandtech regularly, you'll know which brand to trust and which brand not to trust. Anyway, you can trust me, I believe everyone will agree with me that Asus and MSI are quality motherboard makers.

Post some more info on what you want to do with the computer and what you want to spend and how much time you want to devote to tweaking the board to maximum functionality. I don?t think anyone here would intentionally point you in the wrong direction but some may recommend a board that required more effort on your part to run correctly with all of the tweaking options available.
Also, what type of processor (I know you said Pentium III) do you intend to run?
What video card will you be using?
Do you have memory already or will you be buying that as well?
You also said that quality is more important that price (a wise decision) but do you want all out maximum speed or do you want maximum stability?
My quick picks are (assuming that you have a slot one P-III) is the ASUS PSB-F or the Intel SE440BX-2 both are ultra stable boards.
For new people, I tend to lean toward Intel boards as they are almost entirely self-configuring and they are pretty impossible to screw up. The down side is that your tweaking options are about ZERO. The upside is that it will always run.
If you feel a little more daring then try the offerings from ASUS (P3B-F or CUBX) Soyo and MSI also makes a really good board.
In short the more info we have the more we can try to help you.

Asus makes some of the best motherboards out there... I have always bought them and have NEVER had a problem...

By quality do you mean stability or performance? Asus is good for stability, but Abit has a hair better performance IMO

By quality he means reliability, like how reliable the motherboard is gonna be, how long will it last, and how long can it run without problems. Abit is probably the worst in that. And no, Asus not only good in stability, but great performers as well.
