ok... when my mom goes to this site Local HS Band Website she does not see the blue bricks on the left side nor the music notes in the background. Shes running AOL if that helps.

Also, for websites with dropdown menus... when she clicks on the drop down, it just shows the entry on top of the text and not hiding the text, instead of overlapping it.

And her fonts are messed up. Shes running IE6.

I had her try changing the resolution because when I first heard her try to explain it, thats what made sense. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Well her getting rid of AOL is like trying to take a pacifier away from a baby... for some reason shes convinced that AOL is the end-all-be-all in access to the internet.... sucks for me, but she thinks she knows what she is doing all the time and trying to talk her out of anything is impossible.

What should we do about the problem?

Tell her to connect using AOL then open up IE to view the page.
edit: is she using the browser within AOL or opening up a seperate IE window?

A quote from Moonbeam is oddly appropriate here:

"It seems very few people examine their assumptions or have unlearned all the spew they've been taught. Few people seem to understand that they don't really know anything."

Your mom needs to unlearn all of the spew that is AOL.

I can see the bricks on the left, but the formatting is still off. Some of the links are chopped off and there is a "notch" just below 'hosted by Tripod'.

FYI - I'm using IE 6.0

Pretty much any service that uses a standard PPP connection, a standard, non-customized browser, and that provides a direct connection to the internet, without using a proxy.

Tryed it on my aol account, loads just fine. If you didnt know, the browser in AOL is IE but the data just goes through aol's proxy. Try reinstalling the browser, or mabey moving upto mozilla or netscape?

I have yet to try to reinstall the IE browser on AOL, but my mom said she tried to figure out how to do it, but couldnt find out how to reinstall it....

On a side note: since im leaving college tomorrow and returning to the wonderful world of dialup AOL :( I wont be able to post on here until school starts up again... I will keep reading the threads frequently though....

If you want to try to ween her off the comfort blanket of A oh well, they have BYOI (Bring Your Own ISP) program. If you have a real ISP, you can still log onto AOL for about $9.95/mo. The price varies, depending on whether they're running a promotion on it.

If you're on DSL on a real ISP, you could network her machine on that for nothing and save a bunch on the AOL. Saving $15 - $20 per month might make a nice Mothers Day present. :)

I'm pretty sure I already "helped" her out. No, no thanks necessary. It's my duty.

A truly proud moment for Snatchface...
