I have always had a very close reationship with both of my parents. For that, I am very thankful. This year, when she asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I told her nothing. A few new shirts and such, but I encouraged her to spend more on my young sister. I have always been a traditionalist, putting the real meaning of the holiday.. family.. first. She knows I am an avid gamer, but I told her to just forget the 360. Because it costs a ton, and you would drive yourself nuts trying to get one, I really didn't want her to even consider it. She knew me too well though, it was something I would clearly love to have...
I guess she was feeling extra grateful I brought my GPA up this semester to a 3.7. Or something else.. I couldn't believe what happened this morning. My family exchanged gifts, had a nice breakfast and watched "A Christmas Story". After this I was going out to my car to get something and I saw a box wrapped hidden in the closet with my jacket. It had my name on it, I opened it and there was a perfect Xbox 360 sitting right inside. I nearly fell over!
My mom told me our local Target was expecting 30 Xbox 360's. She showed up at 11PM and got online. She was number 31.. The manager came out, feeling very bad for her, and said they just got the shipment in and recieved exactly 30 consoles. It was pouring rain. My mom stood out like a sour thumb with the typical gaming crowd you would expect to see. She would not leave though. She told the manager she believed in Christmas magic and would not leave her spot online. The manager just bowed his head and went back inside. Through the night my mom said the young 20'somethings were very nice to her. They taught her some card games and kept her company. What good people....
9 hours later when the store opened the manager came back out. The line, by now was quite a bit longer. She said, "I have some good news for you, and some bad news... We have exactly 32 Xbox360 consoles for sale". My mom said the man behind her fainted. Soaked, she bought the Xbox and went to work at 10am.
I am overwhelmed by my mothers love for me... such great love few people seem to enjoy in their lives. I am taking my family to Lake Placid NY with some money I made working so we can spend some time together while I am home. Just had to share this sweet story with you.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
