First off, I would like to say that I really could care less if no one in the family got any of the money left behind from my great aunt.
Well, about a year a go my aunt was getting ill, and we decided that she should go to a nursing home. She did, and her house was sold to pay for it. The money was going to be used for her only.
Well, this lit a spark in my mom's cousin's head. He has NEVER visited my great aunt. My family and I go atleast twice a year to keep her company for a day. After my mom's cousin heard about her selling the house, he left his apartment in NYC to come to Vermont to try to get her to sign a contract saying that he gets whatever is left over from selling the house. My great aunt at that time was starting to develop a minor mental problem. I do not know what it was called, but part of it was just from age. Anyways, he took advantage of this, and got her to sign.
About the same time, my mother signed to be her advisor (I think they call it her power of attorny). My mom has been making the 1.5 hour trip often to visit my great aunt in her nursing home. Even a year after her cousin got half the money for the house, he has not visited her once. He still hasn't.
My great aunt has gotten sicker and sicker, and to make a long story short, she sadly past away today at 1:00. It was, and still is a very sad time.
Well, today, my mom called her cousin up to tell him what had happened. He thanked her for calling, and said nothing more. Tonight we get a call from him. He said that after all the payment are made for her funeral, if there are any residuals, he would like her to call him to discuss it.
At the most, the residuals will only be a couple thousand dollars. This not only would help pay for the HUGE amounts of gas my mom paid for to make the long trip constantly all year, but he has already gotten several tens of thousands of dollars more than this from the agreement he made with the house.
Sorry if there are any errors or typos, but I am just to angered to re-read this. I just had to get this out. Thanks for reading.
