My mobo has (1)DIMM and (4)SIMM slots. Can I use both?

I have PT-2006 mobo, I don't know what brand that is, it doesn't say on the board except 'PT-2006'. It's an old 150Mhz machine w/ some jumper change to 166Mhz and I currently use 4 Simm slots of memory but I see there is 1 DIMM slot. I plugged in 32M Dimm but it won't boot up. It doesn't seem to recognize it is there. I looked in the BIOS for any settings that was for DIMM but I didn't see anything relevent.
It will only boot up with SIMM cards in it. When I put both DIMM and SIMM it doesn't recognize DIMM and boots up with only SIMM.

How can I use DIMM? If it's there obviously it is meant to be used right?

Help!

You may or may not be able to use both types at the same time. Some mobos will work that way and some will not. You might have to set a jumper for the system to recognize the DIMM. Also, the DIMM might be of a density not understood by your older board.

I think your board is made by FIC. Go to Google and do a search for your the model number and/or FIC. I'll bet you find a manual you can download.

Mixing different speeds of Dimms is not a good idea, mixing simms and dimms is even less so.

They run at totally different speeds, EDO simms have an access time of 60-70ns compared to Dimms which are around 8ns.

But it's strange that your Dimm won't work on it's own, what speed is the dimm 66mhz or 100mhz, a machine of that age will probably only accept 66mhz since dimms were a brand new thing when it was made.

Out of interest, how much memory do you have total in simms?
