My mirror broke

I think someone hit my mirror when the car was parked, probably a bicycle or something, and cracked it inside. Over the past couple of months it started to develop a giant blue smudge inside as if some liquid spilled, and it's slowly spreading. 70 % of my mirror now is a big smudge.

It's an auto dimming mirror (not sure what the official name for them are). Anyone know if they are pricey to replace? Or know any good car part sites?

A self-dimming mirror is very probably going to be an OEM-only part.

No way to tell you how difficult it will be to replace without knowing the make, model, and year of your car. Sometimes it's very easy to pop off a mirror, sometimes it's a pain.

Try RockAuto for the part.

As to how much it'll cost, I have no idea. Do you want to replace it yourself or have a dealer/shop do it?

backing out of my garage one morning broke my driver side mirror glass. Dealer part. Dealer wanted $200 for glass (heated mirror), and $40 for installation. Being a DIY kind of guy I had them order it, and I would put it in. Cracked the sucker putting it in, and ended up paying for a second mirror and $40 installation the second time around.

Long story short. I'd advise you to pay to have it installed.

Ouch, that must have been really frustrating!

Check your local salvage places. I bought a used Isuzu a number of years ago and it had a broken passenger door mirror. Dealer wanted $700, I shit you not, to replace that mirror (it was a power mirror). I picked up a used one in excellent condition at a salvage yard up in Long Beach for around $90 and replaced it myself.

124 for a mirror there but it comes in black. I only need the glass, not the entire thing, hmm...

Join one of these forums.
Find someone parting out a same-generation es300 in the color you need.
Buy part for cheap, no paint required (if you're lucky).

Did you try Ebay yet? I picked up a taillight for my 840 (NOT easy to find) on Ebay for $75 shipped...

I second this or even check eBay - that's what I did when I smashed the side view mirror on my Ram a few years ago. Certainly not an auto-dimmer but it is heated, and the retail price was somewhere north of $300. I got one off of eBay for like $110, replaced it myself and it's been fine since.

I agree $27 for shipping is a bit high. But then, you would not want it arrive all broken, so they do need to pack it real well.
I would use bubble wrap on the mirror itself, then newspaper, large enough box with peanuts and more newspaper all around
as an additional cushion ... but even so, it should weigh in at more than 4 Lbs, even if it is the mirror with the housing.
