i opened it up before when the fan broke.. the plate is belt driven (ie: rubber band driven) and the elastic has stretched too much in 20 yrs.. >>
Yeah I used to have an old old microwave with one of those belt driven fans. The belt broke one day and I replaced it with an ordinary rubber band, it worked fine for 2 more years on the same rubber band🙂, I ended up buying a new microwave just because the old one was ugly.
