My method of solving the problem of job losses in the US.

Why does everyone think solving the unemployment problem is so hard? I have thought of four ways just off the top of my head.

1). Pass a law that would restrict companies from outsourcing parts, services, and products. Heavy fines for those that get caught.

2). Have the retirement age reduced to 50 and make it mandatory that you retire. Lower Social Security to 50 and make the payments equal to previous earnings and include full medical, dental, and drugs.

3). By making evey business in the U.S. hire 5.4% more employees would take the unemployment rate to 0%.

4). Restrict productivity. Automation, self sevice, and direct payments have all lead to job losses.

For all of you that think we would have to raise taxes, baloney. We have the printing presses that can print all the money we need. If you still want to pay more taxes you should be able to do that also. I would like to research more methods that could be used to increase employment. Your help would be appreciated.

lowering the retirement age is just bad, it creates alot of burden on society

-Then they could just leave entirely! Then what?

2). Have the retirement age reduced to 50 and make it mandatory that you retire. Lower Social Security to 50 and make the payments equal to previous earnings and include full medical, dental, and drugs.

-Why would making someone retire at 50 help the economy? Would you perfer if I worked longer? What if my previous payments aren't enough for me to leave off of?

3). By making evey business in the U.S. hire 5.4% more employees would take the unemployment rate to 0%.

-Why? Do they even need more employees? Your're not entitled to job in the US, sorry buddy.

Great, protectionism is ALWAYS good. Not to mention the higher prices we, as consumers, will get socked with.

Christ! who's gonna pay for this utopian shlt anyway?

Damn! We're not putting enough of a burden on existing businesses already, eh?

Holy fvck! Sucks that we're not still using horses and buggies, doesn't it? Lord knows people just LOVE twisting a nuts and bolts by hand instead of powered equipment.

ever heard of frictional unemployment? when ppl get out of college, they need time to find a job. that lag time makes up a perpertual percentage, it would not make sense to guarantee everybody a job right from the get go, because then a lot of ppl would have jobs who don't deserve them (unqualified druken airline pilots)

think of the 5% as the ones that are temporarily unefficient

While I dont think you would win the Presidency, the election for Village Idiot would be a landslide.

The South tried that during the Civil War. The resultant inflation was so bad that if you handed a baker a dollar bill, he'd cut you a slice of bread the same size to sell to you. Doesn't anybody take Economics in high school anymore?

OK, so maybe I'm a little off in my solution. What other alternatives do we have, let the consumers drive production demand? That does not seam to be helping. In the 90's we were convinced that the economy was the greatest and were told to buy anything and everything we wanted. If we did not have the money, put it on credit. We bought extra tv's, cars, boats, RV's, computers, homes, etc. Is it possible that the market was saturated with products and now consumers don't need any more stuff? If that is the case, we should abandon the idea of making things last longer. A shorter product life will help manufacturing replace products faster. This would be a good thing, right?

You mind if I print out your ideas and take them to work to show some economists your propositions, Komrade? This is the funniest thing I have read on these boards since Boodn's posts :)
