my memory wont run at rated speed!

I'm overclocking my E6600 to 3.2ghz (8x400)

I have my memory, (Crucial ballistix 2x1gb PC2-8000) running at PC2-6400 (800mhz, or 400 x 2, 1:1)

When i try to bump the ratio up a little so that my memory will run at the rated 1ghz, I get no post.

I am running at stock voltage on all parts.

My motherboard is a P5W-DH Deluxe

What do you think the problem could be?

When you say "stock voltage", you do mean 2.2v of vdimm, right? That's what PC8000 Ballistix requires for 500 Mhz.

exactly 2.2.... do you have a solution?

Which ratio are you using? I'm not familiar with your board are the settings 533,667,800,ect?

If so you should be using the 667 setting or 4:5 divider. And also check to make sure your timings and ram volts are set to spec, if all that checks out I say RMA your ram.

You can also try bumping the NB or VMCH volts(whatever its called on your board) higher ramspeeds put more stress on the north bridge chipset. It's quite possible that 400fsb on stock NB volts is fine, but once you up the ram speed you need more.

It's on the jumperfree page and is labeled "MCH V"

Also on the advanced chipset features page set

Hyper Path 3 : Disabled
DRAM Throttling : Disabled

Try that and see if it helps

I didnt mess with the MCH V yet, but i did try what you said.

I disabled the hyperpath 3 and the DRAM throttling, and while I was in there, I put my timings to where they should be. Exit and saved, and no post..

Now what should I do? go back to 800mhz, and auto timings?

I would try bumping the MCH V first, if that doesn't work then you don't have much choice but to go back to 800mhz or send the ram back for a replacement.

ok i figured out how to bump up the MCH V, but what voltage should i go to? im not very familiar with chipset voltages...

Never ever say your RAM won't run rated speeds unless you are running stock speeds.
You are not.

The reason you're having issues is likely due to additional stress on the NB, as was mentioned.
Same reason why i can't run 4:5 very well until i am running FSB over 400 on my mobo.

I would try raising it one increment at a time, but probably not go higher than 1.7v

Where should i start at though? the first number after "auto"?

Yep, should be like 1.4 or 1.45

And like N7 said before you give up on it or try to RMA, drop back to stock CPU speed and set the ram to 1000 and see if that works.
