My media server upgrade

Ordered this Text from Newegg and got it in yesterday. I tried running 2 identical 4-port sata expansion cards along with the 6 onboard ports but it wouldn't work so I replaced both cards with the one above. Now I have 22 ports available but my rack server only has 20 bays but that should be more than enough expansion should I need it. At the moment they're all JBOD only since I bought the hard drives a few at a time and in different sizes so I couldn't make it into an actual RAID array. Maybe as I slowly replace all the drives to 1.5tb I'll go over to raid 5. Total disk space at the moment is alittle over 9tb.

What does the rest of your server hardware look like? I'm assuming a Norco 4020 or 4220?

Just curious really, I'd love to get a better setup for my WHS box, but I just can't through a workable amount of money at it right now.

Basically it's just a file server so I didn't need it to be that beefy. I have a dedicated htpc for running VMC and the decoding. It's a dual core AMD at 2.5ghz, 2gb of ram, the raid card and a cheapo pci video card cause the pcie slot is taken by the raid card. All this in a norco 4020 case with a corsair 650w power supply.

Cool, I'd been wondering how it would work with a PCI-E RAID card in a motherboard with only one x16 slot. That'd be what I'd have to do with my current WHS box, although I'm using onboard video rather than a PCI card; hopefully it would still work. :)

Let us know when you get your raid up, I would be interested in how it goes for you. I have 6 TB drives right now in my rack but like you they are all jbod as well since I can make media browser organise my various drves into one big list in VMC.
