My mechanical pencil runs out of eraser long before the pencil dies

With every mechanical pencil I've used, the eraser has always run out long before the pencil stopped working. Sometimes I can find eraser refills but a lotta times it's just too much of a hassle to find refills. The worst pencils are the ones I have right now, the cheap bics (4.50 for a pack of 12) that have weirdly shaped erasers that can't be refilled. They're the disposable camera of mechanical pencils....

So what do you do? I can't take not having erasers anymore =(

Stop making mistakes?

Sorry, could not resist. If you must erase a lot and lots of design/drafting tasks need this - purchase a retractable stick eraser or an electric one.

Buy the mechanical pencils that have a long eraser that you can twist out. It's great. I think PaperMate has a model that does it.

Pink eraser caps.
(The colorful ones tend to erase poorly, or leave colored streaks on the paper.)

I have several Pentel "Twist-Erase" mechanical pencils that I use at school. Until recently, I was modifying the stick erasers to work as refills for the erasers, but much to my surprise, the school bookstore actually got in some of the replacements...

just take regular erasers and cut pieces out to fit, it doesn't have to fit perfectly , just well enough to not fall out. I definately want pick and recording of u screing if you go with the cut off your hand option

I hate separate erasers when I use my mechanical pencil so I just have a ton of eraser refills and replace them as needed. Unfortunately the price on mechanical pencil stuff is through the roof, so be prepared to pay a few bucks for like 10 tiny eraser tips

I've used Pentel side-click pencils for years, in part because I've never had much of a problem finding their standard eraser refills in the little tubes at Walmart/Target/etc. I'm not interested in carrying and dealing with a separate eraser.

Make fewer mistakes.

You could just buy one of those big pink erasers that some people use.

lmao. only a computer geek would use "standalone" to describe an eraser.

i know this happens with my me and my roommate frequently. we're both mtn bikers and engineers, so we always apply really strange observations to things, like when we're cooking.
