My Macbook has a hard time booting up

When I try to boot into Tiger, it goes through the usual process, but very very slowly. Occasionally, the progress "wheel" and "blue bar" would freeze, and I need to press the power button to get the progress to continue. It takes maybe 5 mins of sitting there and pressing the power button repeatedly to get to the login screen. What could be wrong?

Also, when I bring the computer out of sleep mode, it also takes some time to wake (the screen is grey and there's a progress bar at the bottom).

My Mac used to run so smoothly :S

Wow, problem solved.
If anyone else experiences this problem, all it takes is a reset of the PRAM at power up (Command-Option-P-R)

sometimes you have to also clear out kext (kernel extension) caches.
install Applejack on any 10.3 or 10.4 Mac, it's great.
