My M$ Optical mouse locks up win98, anyone else?

Its just the cheapy. The USB part of it stopped working, and I actually had to use the green PS2 adapter. THat worked for about 2 weeks, but now, win98 loads up completely, and 2 seconds or so after it stops thinking when you start moving the mouse, the mouse hangs up completely, and locks the comp. I assume this is a dying mouse, as this never happened before, just started today. (Although I was suspicious when it would no longer work with USB)

Will MS replace this? I've had it less than a year, but theres no hope of the reciept from best buy where I got it from.

what surface do u use it on?, i had mine on desk,the wood grain goofed it up all the time, i actualy went out and bought a new one same thing, bought a big mouse pad no more problems, good luck

sounds like a software issue at a glance, lmk if it isn't

No, its not that the mouse no longer moves, its that the mouse causes a hard lock of the comp, I have to hit reset. I know how the mouse can get screwy when its ona bad surface...
