Why did you choose the Uli 1689 chipset? If you really want to work on a budget & don't care about gaming, you could get something based on the Geforce 6100 or 6150 -- they come with integrated video. That would save you the cost of adding a video card.

I've also heard good things about the ULi 1695 board by ASRock (ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Socket 939 ULi M1695). It's $67 at newegg.

how much is this coming out too? i vigorously hunted for prices through a 3 week period and my system (in the sig) came out to about 730 total including shipping. granted i already had my screen.

Because i have most of the parts, and only needed a psu/cpu/mem/mb i had the price down to about 250$ that is using the GA-K8U-939 ULi M1689 . if i was to move over to pci-e the cost would move up, cause of the need for a pci-e card. which at this time i have no need for. to me pci-e is really a gamers thing. If i did move over to pci-e this would be my board of choice EPoX "EP-9NPA+Ultra" NVIDIA nForce4 ULTRA

I have a quadro agp based card i whish to use this why i choose the board with agp.

How about getting a Geforce6100/6150 chipset board (starts at $60) and selling that Quadro card?

@Zap that board is out of the question for the fact there seems to be no linux suport for it. this budget rig will be running linux so it has to have linux driver suport ect. thanks though for the info.

Sidenote: those gforce boards seem to need a minimum of 1gig of ram which is not in the budget. since the onboard gpu uses some of the mem the user installs

There's Linux support for the 6100/6150 series. Check out the HCL on linuxquestions.org. The MSI 6150 based board and the Biostar Tforce 6100 both seem to work fine.

GML3G0 after futher reading i have finalized the parts list. it would seem that the gforce boards do offer some room for those on a budget.

@Zap after futher reading i have settled on the GeForce 6150

Thanks to all who have posted.
