As usual, wrong.

7970 is fast at stock as well.

But it is even faster once overclocked.

Same with CPUs, 2500k 2600k both are fast at stock, but much faster when overclocked.

Compared to their overclocked counterparts they are pretty slow (not talking about gaming here), same goes for the 7970.

Back in 2000-2006 it was fun. After awhile its not. Benching is great for those new to overclocking, although just upping the multi isn't very hard to do.

FSB overclocking, figuring out vdimm voltage, vcore, mem timings is what was fun.

It's an advantage NV had since they came late to the party, they knew what the bar was and pushed their product next to its limit. Is that not a correct view?

Yes, and if they knew whats good for them, they will release 7990 1Ghz edition with an optional 2nd bios that clocks it to 1.2ghz, and call that option "Nuke Mode" or something fancy.
