My long term impressions of both the 680 and 7970....

I didn't have to do anything to the 680 to make it fast.

This could have been a meaningful discussion. However it started poorly and ended worse.

So are you just trolling here or what? What is the purpose of this topic?

It is my honest opinion. I have both cards and the 7970 is being sold to some guy on craigslist who bitcoins.

Fact is...i would have to make up excuses to keep the 7970 over the 680 and i do run a 30" dell. If i was broke....then i would save a little bit more till i could afford the 680. Not going to run the mile and give up right before the finish line.

36 fps in a fps, seems playable for a 2008 title.

Its pretty sad that a 4 year old title is still one of the best looking and most GPU stressing titles out there for sure. Thanks to consoles...anyway, Crysis 1 / WH are way better than crysis 2 in terms of gameplay, I hope crysis 3 is more like crysis 1 in that respect.

Definitively going to want CF/SLI with these lackluster "next gen" cards...

But that's a can a worms this thread doesn't need opened.

Aren't you always saying that SLI shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as CF, because SLI is so much better? Yet here you lump them together. :D

Anyway I think single-GPU is almost always the best solution. Turn down the resolution or settings if you must, at least microstutter won't be as bad. But if you gotta go multi-GPU then SLI is the way to do it.

When you start running high settings and 1600p or 3x1080 or 3x1600 you need to venture into CF/SLI if you want decent fps with decent settings.

Otherwise why pay $500 for a VGC anyways, ironically neither are capable of leading us into the next generation of consoles ports anyways.

Sometimes I wonder why we argue so much /:(\ When what we should be doing is going after AMD and Nvidia for these "offerings".

You did it again! Lumping SLI and CF together.

From what I hear the next-gen consoles will have last-gen graphics power, like a HD 6670 GPU. http://www.videogamer.com/news/next...the_power_of_the_xbox_360_claims_sources.html (Though to be fair, coding to the metal will allow for higher performance than coding for something like DirectX. Still, I don't think you can eke that much graphics power out of a HD6670. The PS4 is supposed to have a HD 7xxx derived GPU but it could be even worse if it's a low-end part.) What's worse is that AMD is in control so that pretty much kills any chance of GPU-accelerated physics in most games, unless there's a lot of progress made on OpenCL physics all of a sudden.

I play games for fun anyway, not graphics (though there is a minimum level of graphics that I must have). I've played TF2, L4D2 on triplescreen more than I have played any other game on one or more screens, Crysis included.
