I remember stumbling across a site a long time ago that was basically an internet book club/library where everyone recommended books and lent them out to each other, i'm looking for something similar. Anyone know of anything?

I don't really care for the ATOT book club either, plus im too cheap to go out and buy these books and like I already said, my library sucks.

Does your library participate in an interlibrary loan program? Most of them do. You request books from other libraries and they arrange for it to be sent to your own library.

AFAIK they only participate within the city, and apparently I have an odd taste in books, because no one in the city has the ones I want.

Project Gutenberg actually had some of the ones I want, but I can't stand reading on my computer for things like novels :(

I'd ask if they participate in a broader loan program than just in the city. Our libraries have a countywide organization, and the county org is a member of the state library system. I can ask our library to request any book in the database.

Does your state have a system that would allow you to use the libraries from other cities?

I know in PA (this was like 10+ years ago; I now live in VA) most of the counties would allow you to use and borrow books if you had a valid library card from another county(I think you had to be a tax paying land owner to get in that program though).

I think VA has something similar it but I never bothered to find that out. If the libraries in my city don't have a book I?m looking for, chances are the ghetto neighbor towns won't have it.

There are lots of good book sites...of course for current books it is just as illegal as stealing software, so I won't be linking them. ;p
