My LITEON burner bit the dust!

Topic says it al. My LTR-16102B dies 2 days ago. That's 4 months after purchase. It spits out every type of disc I put in it, CD-R, CD-RW, pressed CDs. The indicator light will just flash until it will wpit the tray out again. Windows XP and my PC still recognize it, but it useless. I headed over to LITEON's website to see what troubleshooting I can do before I RMA it. I did everything, except firmware reflash because the firmware was already the newest version when I bought it. Well, after all the troubleshooting, I emailed the RMA department, and haven't heard a reply since then. Has anyone had experience with LITEON's RMA department? Good or bad? Well, reply if you havve had to deal with them before... thanks! 😉

use a win98 boot cd and see if you can read anything on cd in it. www.bootdisk.com

Sometimes it is the operating system and not the drive

I also assume that you have installed the cd updates from windows update?

The tray problem is fairly common in that drive. Apparently is a hardware defect, with RMA the only solution. Mine went bad after only two days, fortunately, so Newegg took it back. No such problems reported, so far as I'm aware, with the later drives. My 40X has been working fine..

I tried to read all kinds of discs, even the windows98 cd. It just spit the cd tray out, over and over. Yes, I did download Windows Updates files, as I always do that...

same thing happened w/my 24x. It lasted 3 months. I called newegg and they rma'd it for me and I bought a 40x.

My 24x has suddenly gotten fussy about media. I have those HP disks that are TY's and now it coughs them up at the exact same point on every burn...wonder if Newegg would RMA this sucker. Its about 2-3 months old.

Same thing happened to me. RMAd it to Newegg. They sent me a check for the original price. I could buy a faster drive right now and have $40 more in the bank.

This tray defect mentioned - does it show up if you use the eject buttons exclusively instead of pushing the tray back in or doesn't it matter? Just wondering.

That happened to me on my 32x liteon when i was using some boot disks and it didn't like the drivers that the disk loaded. Until I could get a bootdisk with good drivers I had to unplug the computer and even disconnect the power and ribbon from the cd drive before it would read disks again.
