My linksys started acting up for no reason. I went into the admin page and I forwarded port 21 to me so I could host an FTP. Then i noticed it didnt connect after I directed port 21 to myself. I went back to the admin page and I noticed ALL the settings were empty. DMZ, Forwarding, Settings. Even if you enter something in it and save, go back, and its GONE. So Im like OK, no problem, Ill just flash to the newest Firmware. Big problem. I tried flashing to 192.168.1.1 which is the Device IP and it didnt work. It wouldnt save. So I change my device IP to 192.168.2.1 and BAM I cant flash, cant get to the admin site, and the red Diag light is on. Internet doesnt work, cant flash, cant get to the admin page, diag light is on. What the hell do I do?!

I bought this router a while ago, in July of last year from Compusa for $200, I dont have the box or receipt. Can I RMA this to Linksys or something? On the other hand if im seriously screwed thats alright.. I can get the SMC or D-Link 804 (as posted in topic) for $40 after MIR. So If this router is dead for sure, which should I get?

Thanks

Edit: Or I could also get another Linksys BEFSR41 or Netgear RT314 for around $75-$80

I have the 8 port Linksys router.

Do you have a reset button on the front panel of your router? If so, you can use a paper clip and press that button to reset your router. See if that helps. If it doesn't, then you can press and hold it in until the red light comes on and then goes off. This will clear all of your details in the router, but it might fix your problem.

If it still doesn't work, you could go to Best Buy, buy a new 4 port router, do a swap when you get home and test it, then take it back. I know that is kinda shady, but when you purchase a piece of equipment like this, it should last for a long time.

WTF are you thinking? Telling people to swap their broken stuff for new stuff that is very wrong.

Just call Linksys and they will either help you fix it or RMA it for you.

You damn right its shady! Think of the frustration the next person will have when they go and purchase that broken router! Talk about unethical!
