My Linksys System

I have a linksys router that I have near my TV for my Tivo. On the other side of the house I have a pc that I can't get signal with. I took my laptop and put it on that pc desk and it picks up the network but with little connectivity. I seldom can connect to the internet with it. I got a Linsys Range Expander and almost split the distance with it. I have not taken my laptop back in to that room yet. I have been trying to run that pc with Linksys external gaming wirless card. Its primarily used for Xbox's and PS2, but its just an external wirless card with ethernet. Its got lights on it: power, ethernet and wireless G. The G light just flickers sometimes. I figured that the range expander would at least give me 50% at the location, but the external piece can't pick anything up. Is that piece just looking for 100% or nothing? Would I be better off getting an internal wireless card? I had the other sitting around and figured I would put it to use.... Even when I plugged the thing in with an ext cord I still couldn't get a signal with it. Can anyone help me?
TIA

So you get a signal with a laptop in a spot where you can't get a signal with an external wireless dongle? My suggestion would be to replace the dongle with a linksys PCI card, those USB dongles are rubbish.

Its not USB. it goes to ethernet... but yeah. Before I could get a little bit of signal with a laptop.. but the thing won't pick up anything. Do you have experience with the range expander? It should make a big difference cutting 20-30 feet off of the distance, right?
