I work in retail (electronics specifically) and they have been bought up by re-sellers trying to make a quick buck. Whats funny is that there have been hardly anyone BUT them asking for Wii U's.

I had one sitting on a shelf for TWO days after launch. No joke. Any shortage is purely artificial and the market will resume to normal once re-sellers start losing money.

Mine is sitting in my entrance unopened. Picked it up today at Purolator as I had preordered it and it arrived. My first console since the original Playstation.

Been busy configuring my new 24 port gigabit switch. Once I'm done and I do the cut over, I'll start playing with the Wii. Guessing there will be lot of updates so while that goes I'll play some Minecraft. Was going to do the updates while I play with the switch, but probably not a good idea to be updating something while I'm screwing around with the network. LOL

And I'm off tomorrow. Tonight's gonna be a good night.

I think that about every 4th or 5th release of a video game, some manufacturer should announce, "we're going to have a tough time keeping these supplied through the Christmas season. Then, 2 days after the resellers buy them all up, they should flood the market.

If I were a gamer, I would rather buy the awesome X360 and PS3 holiday bundles.

They totally should. Though I never understood why companies short stock on these big releases. Wouldn't it make more sense to supply the demand fully instead of making it first come first serve?

The Nexus 4 is a good example of this as well. I was looking forward to it's release since I'd like to get one, but I want to wait for reviews first, but they went out of stock pretty much as soon as it released. How many did they make, 100? Like seriously. Companies need to be more prepared for the rush when they release something new.

Not complaining though, my Wii U gamepad is charging up right now. :p

Anyone know if the old Wii remotes will work with this? I imagine some games will be more desirable with them. I'll have to buy some.

With everyone doing the resell thing now, it's barely profitable. Ebay is flooded LOL. They're all selling around retail price. There was a few asking like 700 bucks.

I'm sure eventually they'll make that illegal though. Either way I don't really care that much. I think the problem would go away if manufacturers would not short sell a high demand product such as a new game console, tablet, phone or other "gadget of the day".

Sadly the return policy of most stores would allow the resellers to take them back pretty easily. Now, if stores basically said absolutely no returns on game consoles sold in the first 14 days after release, we'd see a lot less reselling.

In general though, resellers often do generate more demand for the item IF it is a good item but it still has to be balanced enough to actually sell consoles. The wii was fairly easy to get the first few days after release if I remember, but it quickly spiked in demand and it took months for it to be commonly available. I also remember resellers trying to drive up the price of the PS3 but since it was already pretty high to begin with, it soon faded. I remember people camping out for the PS3 but mostly ignoring the Wii at release. I'm sure the resellers are expecting it to be like the Wii release but I think Nintendo is going to try to get as many of these things in people's hands before they give up on Nintendo completely.
