True ... I've heard it before OK, If Gin 'n' Juice is a 180, 'Smells like teen spirit' is 179 degrees the opposite.

my first concert was my freshman year of college...saw Trey Anastasio solo tour, first half of the show was just him on an acoustic, second half he had a bass player and drummer. They covered Smells like Teen Spirit. The only other song I remember was called Silicon Fairy.

Their cover of Hanson's Mmmbop, with Trey impersonating James Brown, has got to be the most bizarre by far 😕
 
Phish did NOT play 'gin and juice' thats the Gourds out of texas. They played Smells Like Teen Spirit at the 11/2/98 show at the E.Center in Utah. This was also the spectacular show where they did a full cover of Dark Side of the Moon because this show on tour was thought to be a 'sleeper show'.

They played that song as a semi-joke because someone was screaming it out during the show. Phish also played a nice acapella version of "freebird" complete with mouth guitar solo.
