My level of frustration is bordering on critical...have you ever been completely unable to make a computer work? *PICS!*

..even after replacing/swapping out EVERYTHING?

I've replaced the power supply with a used 400w Antec, new 430w Truepower (which made it POST..better than before), motherboard (from Shuttle AK32L to Asus A7N266-VM), processor (RMA'd XP1600+), and tried onboard video as well as a Visiontek Ti200. It POSTs fine..but as soon as the system has to do anything (ie get into BIOS, boot from a CD, etc), it freezes in a matter of seconds, then shuts off. Motherboard isn't grounding out..tried other RAM as well.

So..have you ever had a seemingly un-fixable computer?

edit: Tried with a new (just came in today) Shuttle AK32L and some known working PC133..this is what happened (completely locked up at this point) Pics

I'm about to try a new AK32L that just came in today (back from RMA)..maybe I'll be lucky and it'll work. If so, yet another RMA to send in..

Not to offend, but did you take off the heatsink TIM tape? If it didnt come with it, you may want to pull off the heatsink and check the core for chipping / damage.

Have you tried another video card? Maybe a PCI one? Check the core for damage. Test the RAM in something else. Get a different Mobo.

I have had everything break on one.

What happened: Cust wanted upgrade to his 300 k6/2. I installed 500 k6/2. Would only recognize as a 450. ( even though it supported up to 550 ) 2 hours later, hard drive went out. Installed new hard drive ( 40 gig ) and the cd-rom quit working. I got pissed and put in a 52x. Then the PWS went out. Replaced PWS with a 300 watt. Motherboard then decided to overvolt CPU and ruin it.

That was not a good day. BTW: Customer has a new 1.0 duron system and I only charged him for the cpu/memory/hard drive. Man he was pissed, then happy. I only lost about $200, but I now have a customer for life. Only good thing I can think of.

Nothing else to test RAM in. Tried two sticks..each one, then both. According to the manual, PCI video cards don't work in the A7N266-VM..some weird chipset issue, I guess. I've tried onboard & AGP. The heatsink has ASIII..no thermal pad ever on it or the processor. Core looked fine..if it was chipped, would it POST at all?

F*(!#%(&*%(*#&$(@*!!!!!!!!!!!

Tried the AK32L. First, it hung at 141***K RAM test..so I pulled my Crucial RAM. Rebooted..read 131*** (normal), then stopped. DIDN'T GO ANY FARTHER! I'm going to try some SDR SDRAM from this PII (meaning I have to reboot, which sucks..), and see if it works. If not, it's not RAM..not motherboard..must be processor AGAIN. BAH.
