My latest car audio installation, w/Pics.

JamAutoSound is back in action! Got hooked on computers for quite sometime now. Until about a month ago when my Father-in-law asked if I could put a complete system (head unit, amp, 4 speakers and sub.) in his all stock 1983 300SD Mercedes. Installation went very smooth, but last week he called and said he was trading it in for a 2003 Chevy pickup. He found out his turbo was going out, his fuel pump went bad, and several other problems (not related to the install 🙂 ) were going to cost him well over $3000 to repair.:Q🙁 So off I go to uninstall everything. He felt so bad about having me do all that work twice, that he gave me all the equipment that he purchased.😀 I was quite happy.

On to the installation! My most recent endeavor back into the car audio world:

The two amps
The right side
The left side

These are all I have so far. Two amps mounted under the front seat powering the four door speakers. I'm still working on the rear amp install and a custom sub-woofer box for the trunk. All the wiring is there, I just need to decide where I'm going to put it.🙂

This is the head unit Pioneer FH-P404, it's a double din unit, with front/rear & sub out rca's. CD and cassette.

I have JBL's for the front speakers and Jensens in the rear. One Image Dynamic DVC 12" sub for the bass.

jamautosound, can you help a brother out? Just have a quick question for you.

One of my stock rear speakers is buzzing fairly badly. Especially with bass material. Just happened which pisses me off because my Jetta just went out of warranty. Anyways, i'm going to look at the door panel tommorrow when I get the chance and maybe try to pry it off and check the speaker to see if I can tighten it or whatever.

I've never done this before so i'm not sure how to start without worrying that i'm going to damage anything or possibly get myself electrocuted/whatever.

Any quick pointers you can give me on how to simply get around this problem?

I doubt your warranty would cover your speaker - stock speakers are made of cheap paper woofers and foam/cloth surrounds - the buzzing isn't anything you can tighten up - more than likely the surrounds have cracked and/or disintegrated from the heat. You probably want to replace the speakers while you're at it. Check crutchfield.com for a fit guide.

I did a trade, I upgraded my friends computer, and he gave me some equipment. The only thing I don't like about the Pioneer is that you can't adjust the EQ (just the four settings) besides bass, treble and sub x-over adjustments. I want more control. 😉

I agree. Although some auto-makers have been using decent stuff lately, most of them still use the cheapest material imaginable.

Be careful with the prying, some speaker grilles are actually part of the whole door panel. In that case you would have to remove the whole panel. Look for all the possible location for screws and snap-together parts.

Besides the cheap paper being ripped, another cause could be some material (insulation/padding) came loose and is touching the speaker itself. Good Luck.

Well, in all honesty, I haven't gotten around to fooling with the car yet. However, with this new info i'm thinking of maybe swapping my older Alpine DDRs (5 1/4" woofers and 1" tweets) from my other car into the Jetta. However, I understand that my '99.5 Jetta has a slightly bigger than 5 1.4" woofers but smaller than 6 1/2". Or maybe it's the enclosure size. Not sure. I understand that it's proprietary though. I guess. Anyways, there's some concern about being able to just drop in these speakers without having to do some fancy footwork. They are great speakers that are going to waste in my other car since the Jetta is my main driver.

Additionally, I don't want to incur "excessive" installation charges but, again, I don't want to make this Jetta my own personal learning experience. I also don't know anyone personally that does car installs/etc.

Oh well. I'll figure something out.

Why is that scary? BTW, that is the final install, those are mounted under the passenger seat already. Pic taken with the seat out of course.

I took great care in routing the wires. The front channels are up and running fine.

I did, however, just find out that the amp I planned on using for the sub has a channel out.:| crap.

and Viperoni the two Kicker 🙁 amps are each only running a pair of 4" speakers.
Plenty 'nuff sound.😉

I have 2 kicker IX252 amps mounted side by side in my truck. Is there are problem mounting them side by side?

I have never had any problems with my Kicker products, but I'm not using them for competition, just to listen to some tunes.

CurtCold amps can be mounted which ever way you please, as long as there aren't ground shorts or loose wires. I think that's what bmacd was refering to, how close together I put them. As long as none of the wires are touchy-feeling each other, everything should be fine.🙂
