My laptop's LCD won't stay in place anymore...

Yesterday I was working with my laptop (a Compaq Armada 7750MT) when I closed it and set it down for awhile to get the power cord. When I opened it back up, for some reason the screen would not stay put. It was just swinging freely.

Anyone have any idea what can cause this? Is it difficult to fix?

how old is ur lappy? one reason i can think of is that the locking mechanism has worn out through repeated close/open of the screen.

are the screen hooks made of metal or plastic? it could be either the hook or the interlocking mechanism inside the laptop(usually plastic i think)

My guess is that it just gave up the ghost. You may look into how the mechanism works and see if you can see a problem and try to fix it. Maybe look into eBay for another just like it for parts and take two of them to make one.

Take a pair of pliers or wire cutters and crimp the hinge to put more pressure on the spindle inside. Of course that will not work if the hinge is cracked.

The machine I did it to only had one loose hinge. The other side wasn't "too" bad. It was a Compaq Presario 1500 series I think.
