My laptop

I have an Hp Pavillion zv5000, it's actually a zv5240 model, and I've had it for about fours years now. it works just fine still but lately it's been driving me nuts with the battery, and power supply. I can't seem to keep it on AC power without it switching to battery power for over an hour or so. it keeps switching between AC and battery power, and every now and then, it'll go on hibernate with the battery at like 99% charged.

Sometimes I get lucky and fidget with the power supply and it'll stay on AC power for a while, but it'll go off again and to get it back on is a pain in the a$$. I also have the brightness set differently for when it's on AC or battery power. You can imagine how annoying it gets as it switches to battery power, then I have to try and put it back on Ac power, which stays bright for only about 10seconds, then back again.

Is there a simple fix to this or what's the deal? I've changed batteries, and AC adapters but it's not doing me any good still.

it could be a bad power jack on the laptop. I have the same problem with my laptop. The power jack worn out over time or it has a bad solder connection to the motherboard.

open the laptop up, and check the solder points between the power jack and the motherboard. If the solder joints seem to be okay, then replace the power jack. Also, check to see if the power cable of the AC adapter is still good.
