my laptop wont turn on

i last used it at the end of the school year in april. went to use it this school year, and doesnt work. i dont know anything else. my mom took it to radio shack.

Seriously, I would first check to make absolutely sure the power cable is plugged in securely. If the machine still doesn't turn on, then you have a problem.

Do you have the laptop?

What kind is it (who makes it, what model is it?)

What does it do when you try to turn it on (any noise any lights)?

Does the power brick light up (if it has a light) and does the laptop indicate that it is getting power (light?)?

i dont know where the lap top is. either in my room at home, or at radio shack. it's compaq presario.. got in in 2000. doesnt make any noise. one light went on. i think it was the power is plugged in light. when i had it plugged in for awhile, i heard a fan running.. but nothing else.

If you don't have access to it there isn't much I can do for ya.

Try connecting it to an external monitor, try using a boot disk, try reseating components, play with the display position indicator thingy (lets laptop know if display has been opened, normally a stud and hole arangement) ...

good luck!

Try reseating the memory, or if you have two modules in there, try booting with only one module. Make sure you try the memory in each slot. Of course you will need to "find" your laptop first to try messing the memory.
