My laptop monitor isnt working.

Hello, let me preface. I got a POS laptop from my friend for shits and giggles, he got it from his school, how he did, i..erm..dont know..., anyway, to the problem. It worked fine for a month or so, but now when i boot, the monitor is very very dark, dark enough that i cant see crap. Is this because of some fail safe thing at the shcool where if they dont do anything for a certain amount of time, or is there something wrong with it. Thanks for any help!

Try checking the little switch that is hit when you close the lid of the monitor.

Try checking the power saving settings

Try checking the battery level.

probably the backlight is dead

this is a common problem for dell uxga laptop screens, just check the dell forums!

my Inspiron 8100 has the same problem, the backlight/inverter is dead. the people at the dell forums have found a way to replace it, but since dell doesnt sell those parts to the public, you'll have to find it yourself.

i found an easy solution tho, instead of turning the lcd brightness all the way up, turn it down a notch or 2. this will prevent the backlight/inverter from overheating.
