My laptop is freezing at various times. I need help here.

Ok so the other day i wanted to get one of those cool virtual screensavers, you know the fish tank kind. bad idea. After i downloaded it ive had nothing but trouble. Quite frequently now, when im running several tasks at a time, my computer will freeze up for two or three minutes at a time. I end up just leaving it and coming back and everything will be like it was. My laptop is fairly new and i dont think spyware and the like is a problem. I frequently run, Microsoft Spyware Remover, Adaware, Spybot, and Spyware Doctor. I am also running AVG and Mcaffee virus scanners. They have both given me warnings about a couple infected files, but i deleted them and ran the scans again.

Im running an AMD 3500+ with 1GB of mem so i dont think that over tasking is the problem. I do have a bunch of items running in the task bar but with my system i dont think that it would cause a problem. Im really not sure what to think here. Previously i was able to run as many tasks as i wanted and have no problem, but now sometimes it will just freeze. Anyone have any clues as to what is the problem? Perhaps i should use a CPU monitor to see what is happening? Any advice would be great.

Go to PCPitstop and run a full test. It might give you some insight.

Look for any yellow / red flags and follow the steps they give to fix the problems. Disable all running apps before you do the test though.

ok im doing that now, ill see what happens.
 
If you click on the techexpress button you can create a link to your results/post them for others to take a look. Might help you figure out if somethings wrong.
 
find a screwdriver.

use the screwdriver to remove your harddrive.

find a hammer.

use the hammer to smash your harddrive.

find a credit card.

use the credit card to order your new harddrive.
 
Well it does look like you've got too many apps running though. Having two Anti-virus programs can actually cause problems (plus you've got some Norton crap running too).

I'd remove Mcaffe and Norton -- they both suck anyway. AVG, Antispy and the SP2 firewall would be fine.

Also take a look at whats causing the 10% CPU usage. When you run the test the CPU usage should be at 0%.
 
ok ill try to get rid of norton. mcaffe i just put on to double check for viruses, i plan on removing that too. As for the ten percent cpu usage, im not sure at all what it is. Thanks for the advice.
 
Thanks for the advice. After getting rid of the norton and mcaffee, and shutting down some of the running antispyware my system seems to be running smoother. Also i downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card, i read somewhere that graphics can cause the system to lag. Ill run the spyware removers in safe mode also to help things along. Someone mentioned "resetting the ram"? how might i go about doing this though?
